Jonathan Su, special counsel to President Barack Obama, has swapped the White House for his former firm Latham & Watkins, just four blocks away.

Su returns to Latham & Watkins as a partner, six years after leaving his associate post to become an assistant US attorney in Maryland. It was in that role he caught the eye of the Obama Administration when he received the US Attorney’s Award for Excellence in the Prosecution of Fraud in 2010.

Su was recruited to handle congressional investigations in early 2012 and advised the administration on a probe into alleged overspending by officers in support agency the General Services Administration, which spent USD 800,000 on an event in Las Vegas in 2010.

He was also called upon to advise the White House when it emerged that a secret service agent was found to have hired a prostitute ahead of a presidential visit in Colombia. The incident became public when the agent fought with a woman in a hotel over payment.

Doug Greenburg, vice-chairman of Latham & Watkins' litigation group, said in a statement that Su “enhances our ability to handle the most challenging law enforcement and regulatory issues”.

He added: “Jonathan has great experience as a lead lawyer in complex investigations and trials. He rejoins our strong group of leading white-collar lawyers.”

As a state attorney, Su secured trial convictions and guilty pleas of the leaders of a USD 78 million Ponzi scheme, prosecuted a USD 49 million embezzlement from the District of Columbia government and took 12 jury trials to verdict.

Su follows White House aide Ed Pagano, who joined Akin Gump in March, and White House counsel Karen Dunn, who switched to Boies Schiller & Flexner in February, into private practice.

He is the second former federal prosecutor to join Latham & Watkins white-collar defense and government investigations group this year, following the hire of Michael Fee in February.

By placing an Attorney on the Federal Bench from Latham and Watkins insures favoritism in Global matters ie trading, Islamic suing the Infidel and Islamic law replacing the Constitution.  This will also insure Obama will never be tried because he has a friend on the bench.

Obama nominates first Muslim to federal judiciary

It is unlikely that the Republican-controlled Senate will schedule the confirmation process of the Pakistan-born Abid Qureshi.

Pakistan-born Abid Qureshi could be the first Muslim to be a federal judge of the U.S if the Senate confirms his nomination. President Barack Obama nominated Mr. Qureshi for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on Tuesday, continuing with his efforts to diversify the ethnic composition of the country’s judiciary.

Mr. Obama has only four months left in the office, and it is unlikely that the Republican-controlled Senate will schedule the confirmation process. The Republicans have refused to consider Mr. Obama’s judicial nominees for several months now, including one to the Supreme Court.

The President has been persistent throughout this tenure to bring people of various ethnic origins on to benches at all levels. Indian-American Sri Srinivasan, U.S Circuit Judge in the District of Columbia was considered for nomination to the SC earlier this year. Mr. Obama had nominated him as a federal judge in 2013. The President also nominated the first Hispanic judge on the SC.

According to White House spokesperson Josh Earnest, “he has appointed 117 minorities to the federal judiciary. That's more than any other President. He has appointed 26 African American women to the federal bench. That is more than any other President. He’s appointed 37 Hispanics to the federal bench. That is more than any other President. He’s appointed 20 Asians to the federal bench. That is more than any other President. And he has appointed 11 LGBT judges. That is more than every other President combined."

Trump's opposition

The nomination of Mr. Qureshi is particularly significant given the racially surcharged presidential election campaign that is underway. Republican nominee Donald Trump has raked up the ethnic origins of a Latino judge hearing a case of fraud against him. Many Republican leaders denounced Mr. Trump’s position, but he went on to state that a Muslim judge also could not be impartial towards him.

A Muslim group in Switzerland has decided to protest “Islamophobia” …by insulting the memory of Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

The Islamic Central Council of Switzerland (ICCS), a conservative Muslim group, has chosen a symbol reminiscent of the Jewish Star of David for a planned protest against Islamophobia this weekend.

Around 2,000 people are expected to participate in the ‘Day against Islamophobia and racism’, a mini-festival organized by ICCS in the capital Bern that will run from 2 to 5pm on Saturday.

In an attempt to draw parallels between the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany and Muslims in the Switzerland of today, many participants will wear t-shirts and stickers with the word ‘Muslim’ framed by a yellow star.

The Bern-based ICCS was founded by young Swiss converts to Islam shortly before the political initiative to ban minarets. Some in the Swiss media have labeled its president Nicholas Blancho ‘the Bin Laden of Biel’, a reference to his home town.

Seemingly unperturbed by the criticism, Blancho says there are distinct similarities between anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

“We want to trigger a debate and show that the discrimination of Muslims in Switzerland is a fact,” he told Tages Anzeiger. “Muslims are treated as second-class citizens and are discriminated against, for example because they wear a headscarf or because of their name when they look for an apprenticeship or are looking for an apartment,” he added.

The symbol has outraged Swiss Jews. Edith Bino, president of the Jewish community in Bern, told the Zurich newspaper that the idea of the star is so wrong that they could not take it seriously.

Of course, we are already used to Muslim groups actively working towards a new Holocaust, so I guess this is lightweight.

This was in the middle 1800 which was long before the establishment of Israel in 1948.

America’s most belligerent Islamist group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), has opened up an office in Boston. Top mission: countering APT’s public awareness campaign about the Muslim Brotherhood institutions in Boston. In a mud-slinging report on APT, written shortly after it incorporated in Massachusetts, CAIR unwittingly admits that our work has been highly successful over the past year.  CAIR’s report helpfully details our work: They [APT] have taken out extensive advertising in local and national newspapers asserting ties between these organizations and designated terrorist groups, penned op-eds in numerous news outlets presenting Boston as a “hub” of extremism, and accused local mosques of serving as fronts for the Muslim Brotherhood and promoting “violent Jihad, hatred for America, and of Western civilization in general.”  The group waged a successful harassment campaign against the Newton, MA public school system: in an effort to alter the schools’ curricula so as to remove texts about Islam, APT took out incendiary and factually misleading ads in major Boston-area newspapers such as the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Newton Tab, Jewish Advocate, and Boston Metro. CAIR would seem to be an unusual choice to do damage control for the radical Boston mosques: the FBI views CAIR as likely linked to Islamic terror groups.  In 2008, the largest counterterrorism trial in US history established, in the words of trial judge Jorge Solis, “at least a prima facie case as to CAIR’s involvement in a conspiracy to support Hamas.” The following year, the Obama Justice Department cut its ties with CAIR. In an April 28, 2009 letter to several U.S. Senators explaining the FBI’s reasons for shunning CAIR, FBI Assistant Director for Congressional Affairs, Richard Powers said that, “until we can resolve whether there continues to be a connectio n between CAIR or its executives and HAMAS, the FBI does not view CAIR as an appropriate liaison partner.” Even the United Arab Emirates has designated CAIR as a terrorist organization. Yet CAIR has successfully fooled many liberal media, such as the Boston Globe, that its goal is to protect the civil rights of American Muslims. It is alarmed that APT has consistently exposed its real mission here in New England: to support and defend the radical Islamist leadership of Boston’s largest Islamic institutions, such as the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB) allowing them to radicalize the historically moderate Muslim community here. CAIR’s attack on APT, written by the Massachusetts branch’s chairman John Robbins is comprised of an assortment of false accusations and wild claims. Without any real substance to include, CAIR instead turns its fury onto APT’s Muslim allies. It names Islamic leader Ahmed Subhy Mansour and groups such as the Center for Islamic Pluralism as participating in some grand “Islamophobic” conspiracy. The group is led by Charles Jacobs, who has a long history of founding polarizing and defamatory organizations in the Boston area.  He previously directed The David Project and co-founded CAMERA (the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America).  The former was profiled, along with Jacobs, in the CBS article “The Great Islamophobic Crusade,” which described in detail their efforts to block construction of the ISBCC on ideological grounds, as well as the group’s production of the film Columbia Unbecoming, which made unfounded accusations against Arab-American Columbia University faculty.  The David Project has received over $250,000 since 2005 from organizations identified by the Islamophobia Network as promoting religiously motivated hatred against Muslims, and CAMERA has received over $2,000,000 in donations since 2001, including significant sums from groups dedicated to promoting anti-Islamic sentiments.  The Anti-Defamation League has publicly repudiated Jacobs for his unfounded and “irresponsible” allegations that a public school building in Michigan was to be used as a front for the Muslim Brotherhood, and his criticisms of the ADL for supposedly not taking the threat of Islamic extremism seriously.  The ADL cited his “pattern” of making such accusations, “replete with distortions, inaccuracies, exaggerations, and hyperbolic attacks that shed more light than heat.” Other prominent members of APT include Ahmed Subhy Mansour, who is controversial for his support of well-known Islamophobe Daniel Pipes, as well as his justification of former Congressman Tom Tancredo’s suggestion of bombing Mecca.  Following Tancredo’s proposal that the US might propose bombing Islam’s holiest site as a deterrent against terrorist attacks, Mansour wrote that “an objective assessment of [Congressman] Tancredo’s statement must claim that any US official, concerned with the lives of his civilian countrymen, is likely to make such a remark as a way of deterring terrorists.”  The US State Department has called Tancredo’s statement “insulting and offensive.”  Mansour has served in leadership roles within numerous organizations that are supported financially by Islamophobic causes and foundations, including the Center for Islamic Pluralism (CIP), which has received nearly $500,000 since 2005 from the Middle East Forum and the Donors Capital Fund, the latter of which has been documented as a major source of financial support for groups which oppose mainstream US Muslim organizations, having contributed over $27,000,000 to groups promoting Islamophobia.  As noted above, the Middle East Forum is directed by Daniel Pipes, who has endorsed religious profiling of Muslims and stated that “Western European societies are unprepared for the massive immigration of brown-skinned peoples cooking strange foods and maintaining different standards of hygiene... All immigrants bring exotic customs and attitudes, but Muslim customs are more troublesome than most.”  Mansour has expressed his support for Pipes, writing that “We Muslims need a thinker like Dr. Pipes, who can criticize the terrorist culture within Islam, just as I usually do.”  William Sapers, an insurance executive, and Professor Dennis Hale of Boston College are also listed as Directors.  The latter has published numerous articles in blogs and online opinion sites arguing that Muslims only feign indignation to insults against the Prophet Muhammed and their religion in order “to induce, in infidels, a habit of deference to Islam, the more public the deference the better;” publicly opposing the construction of the Park51 mosque in New York (calling it the “Ground Zero Mosque”); and claiming that “Palestinian Arabs only pretend that they want to be a people with their own nation.  What Palestinian Arabs really want is depressingly clear: they want to destroy Israel and kill the Jews.” Americans for Peace and Tolerance is the latest instantiation of a grouping of individuals with a long history of opposing religious plurality in the Boston area.  Although its methods for doing so have evolved – from obstructing the construction and expansion of Muslim religious centers in the community to, once those institutions were established, attempting to erode public confidence in their leadership and capacity to engage in productive interfaith dialogue – its aims remain the same.  The credibility of the group and its members, especially their espoused desire to “promot[e] peaceful coexistence in an ethnically diverse America,” is belied by their ongoing close association with some of the most virulently anti-Muslim groups currently operating in the United States, and they have a significant financial incentive to continue undermining the credibility of local Islamic institutions.  Media outlets and political figures should be highly suspicious of their claims, which have been misleading or outright fabricated in the past.ny more? {unsubscribe}Unsubscribe

A series of Memorial Day tweets made by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has angered a number of American Muslims.

According to the Clarion Project, the tweets by CAIR officials questioned whether to honor U.S. troops who gave their lives in wars they oppose.

CAIR officials frequently depict American soldiers as murderers, imperialists and abusers of Muslims.

One tweet by Zahra Billoo, the executive-director of CAIR’s San Francisco Bay Area chapter, read that she “struggles with Memorial Day each year” and added, “How does one balance being pretty anti-war while honoring those who died in the military?”

She also quoted another CAIR official, Dawud Walid, the executive-director of CAIR’s Michigan chapter, as questioning whether they should honor American soldiers that died in “unjust” wars and occupations.

The Clarion Project noted that Billoo did, however, find one “soldier” she felt comfortably honoring. On May 26, she promoted an article from the anti-Semitic and anti-American Nation of Islam that asked for help for a “black liberation soldier” named Imam Jamil al-Amin.

Al-Amin was a member of the Black Panthers terrorist group and was convicted of murdering a police officer in 2000. He is also anti-American and has said that “if America doesn’t come around, we’re gonna burn it down,” and “I say violence is necessary. It is as American as cherry pie.”

Not all Muslims, however, welcomed the tweets, and a backlash was sparked following a Clarion Project report on the topic.

The comments by CAIR officials prompted several Bosnian Muslims to thank U.S. soldiers for their sacrifices, with one explicitly saying that CAIR does not speak for them.

“Without the US, #Bosnia would by now be part of racist project of ‘Greater Serbia.’ #Muslims in #Bosnia are greateful [sic] to US! #thx,” read one tweet.

Another read, “THANK YOU American soldiers for opposing Serbian campaign of ethnic cleansing and #genocide in #Bosnia and for bombing #Serbia.”

In addition, a number of Muslim human rights activists responded in statements to the Clarion Project.

Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, President of the American-Islamic Forum for Democracy, told the website, “The real truth that CAIR and their Islamist colleagues at the Organization of the Islamic Conference hypocritically ignore is that our American sons and daughters in the military have sacrificed more to liberate free-thinking Muslims from the shackles of real oppression in countries like Afghanistan and Iraq than any other nation, especially Muslim-majority countries.

“Our military is ground zero in the ideological conflict against Islamism. Islamist groups like CAIR cannot both claim that Muslims should be conscientious objectors against ‘occupation’ while also claiming they respect their service and patriotism,” added Jasser.

Dr. Ahmed Subhy Mansour, President of the International Quranic Center, said, “As an experienced Muslim thinker and scholar, I cannot help but notice the role the U.S. military plays in international developments worldwide, where the U.S. is the number one contributor of international aid. Moreover, the U.S. military’s humanitarian work is the most active in comparison to any other military in the world, providing medical services and food supplies in many conflict zones.

“Organizations like CAIR choose to overlook all of the above work of the U.S. military. The approach exemplifies radicals’ views of the world as two camps: Infidels (the West) and believers (Muslims). This contradicts the real Islamic teachings, as I clarify in this article,” he said.

Dr. Tawfik Hamid, former Islamist and Chair for the Study of Islamic Radicalism at the Potomac Institute, told Clarion Project, “As a Muslim, I would like to thank the U.S. troops for fighting Islamist radicals and terrorists since September 11. Our American soldiers who lost their lives in this war are true heroes who died to defend our nation and to save the world from the enemies of our civilization.”

Former FBI Counterterrorism expert John Guandolo revealed to Arutz Sheva in March that he has information showing CAIR is a front for the terrorist organization Hamas.

In 2008, CAIR was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorist money laundering case in U.S. history – the trial of the Holy Land Foundation in which five HLF officials were convicted of funneling money to Hamas.

U.S. District Court Judge Jorge Solis ruled that, "The Government has produced ample evidence to establish the association" of CAIR to Hamas, upholding their designations as unindicted co-conspirators. In 2008, the FBI formally ended all contact with CAIR because of its ties to Hamas.

Individuals from CAIR visited the White House at least 20 times starting in 2009, according to a 2013 investigation by the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT).

In 2010 the organization gave a lifetime achievement award to Helen Thomas, the veteran White House correspondent who resigned after she said in an interview that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and go back to Poland and Germany.

Israeli officials were angered this week after the Obama Administration found the loophole it needed to justify support for the new Palestinian Authority unity government, despite the involvement of the Hamas terrorist organization.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week warned that a Palestinian government including Hamas would mean an end to the peace process, and Washington initially appeared to back up that assessment.
But then US Secretary of State John Kerry did an apparent about-face while in Lebanon this week, telling reporters that his government would work with the new Palestinian regime. Kerry argued that doing so would not provide any legitimacy to Hamas, as none of the ministers in the new Palestinian government are directly affiliated with the terror group.
“Based on what we know now about the composition of this technocratic government, which has no minister affiliated to Hamas and is committed to the principles that I describe, we will work with it as we need to, as appropriate,” said Kerry.
Earlier, US State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf insisted that in America’s eyes, “it is not a government backed by Hamas” because “there are no members of Hamas in the government.”
That position seemed to conveniently ignore that the Palestinian unity government was only made possible by the reconciliation agreement between Hamas and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction, meaning Hamas has substantial influence.
Nor did Kerry or Harf bother to acknowledge the fact that the Palestinian government announced this week is a transitional regime, and that when new elections are held later this year, Hamas may very well win a commanding presence at the ballot box, as it did in 2006.
Whatever Washington’s motivation for joining the European Union and the UN in welcoming the new Palestinian government, Netanyahu was none too impressed.
“I’m deeply troubled by the announcement that the United States will work with the Palestinian government backed by Hamas,” the Israeli leader told The Associated Press. “All those who genuinely seek peace must reject President Abbas’ embrace of Hamas, and most especially, I think the United States must make it absolutely clear to the Palestinian president that his pact with Hamas, a terrorist organization that seeks Israel’s liquidation, is simply unacceptable.”
Determined not to allow the international community to alter the status quo regarding Hamas, Israel began imposing threatened sanctions and punitive measures as a result of Abbas’ unity government announcement.
Palestinian media reported that Israel had revoked the VIP cards held by high-ranking Palestinian Authority officials, was withholding tax revenues collected by Israel on behalf of the Palestinians, and had barred movement between Gaza and the “West Bank.”
Israel also published tenders for 1,500 new apartments in Judea, Samaria and on the eastern side of Jerusalem, all areas claimed by the Palestinians. Housing Minister Uri Ariel confirmed that the housing units were a direct response to the Hamas-backed Palestinian unity government.
The new apartments are “an appropriate Zionist response to the Palestinian terror government,” Ariel insisted in a statement released to the press.
The Obama Administration didn’t see things that way. While it was willing to find an excuse to embrace the new Palestinian government, Washington flatly rejected and condemned Israel’s renewed “settlement activity.”
“We oppose settlement construction in the West Bank as well as announcements regarding such construction,” American Ambassador Dan Shapiro told Army Radio. “We would do so with or without this disputed case of a new Palestinian transitional government.”
The new Palestinian government responded by saying it hoped the Obama Administration would take its own punitive steps toward Israel.
“It is time for the American administration to take serious steps against what the government of Israel is doing,” PA presidential advisor Nimr Hammad told the AFP. “We strongly condemn this decision [to build 1,500 new Jewish apartments] which affirms that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a liar and is not interested in the two-state solution.”

Mozambique (/moʊzæmbiːk/ or /mɔːzæmbiːk/), officially the Republic of Mozambique (Portuguese: Moçambique or República de Moçambique, pronounced: [ʁɛˈpublikɐ di musɐ̃ˈbiki]), is a country in Southeast Africa bordered by the Indian Ocean to the east, Tanzania to the north, Malawi and Zambia to the northwest,Zimbabwe to the west, and Swaziland and South Africa to the southwest. Between the 1st and 5th centuries AD, Bantu-speaking peoples migrated from farther north and west. Mozambique is endowed with rich and extensive natural resources. The country's tourism sector is also growing. South Africa is Mozambique's main trading partner and source of foreign direct investment. With Matt Drudge’s recent revelation that John Kerry is as faithful to his second wife as he was to his old Vietnam “brothers,” the senator’s presidential campaign may depend more than ever on the actions of his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry. While the mainstream media has thus far overlooked the alleged infidelity, media outlets have also overlooked a far more important story: The former Mrs. John Heinz is also in bed -- financially -- with the radical Left.

Teresa Heinz Kerry has financed the secretive Tides Foundation to the tune of more than $4 million over the years. The Tides Foundation, a “charity” established in 1976 by antiwar leftist activist Drummond Pike, distributes millions of dollars in grants every year to political organizations advocating far-Left causes. The Tides Foundation and its closely allied Tides Center, which was spun off from the Foundation in 1996 but run by Drummond Pike, distributed nearly $66 million in grants in 2002 alone. In all, Tides has distributed more than $300 million for the Left. These funds went to rabid antiwar demonstrators, anti-trade demonstrators, domestic Islamist organizations, pro-terrorists legal groups, environmentalists, abortion partisans, extremist homosexual activists and open borders advocates.

During the years 1995-2001, the Howard Heinz Endowment, which Heinz Kerry chairs, gave Tides more than $4.3 million. The combined Heinz Endowments (composed of the Howard Heinz Endowment and the Vira I. Heinz Endowment) donated $1.6 million to establish the Tides Center for Western Pennsylvania, a Pittsburgh office of the San Francisco-based Tides Center. Since that time, the local branch has tirelessly pushed an anti-business agenda in the name of “preserving the environment.” However, it is the Tides Foundation’s national organization whose connections are most disconcerting.

The Tides Foundation is a major source of revenue for some of the most extreme groups on the Left. Tides allows donors to anonymously contribute money to a host of causes; the donor simply makes the check out to Tides and instructs the Foundation where to forward the money. Tides does so, for a nominal fee. Drummond Pike told The Chronicle of Philanthropy, “Anonymity is very important to most of the people we work with.” That becomes understandable when one views the list of Tides grant recipients. And who are the beneficiaries of this money?

The Antiwar Movement

Senator John F. Kerry has gone far with his nuanced view of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He voted for the war resolution but specified a litany of conditions the Bush administration must meet before he would support combat, then proceeded to vote against funding troops already in harm’s way -- then claimed he had always supported the president when Saddam Hussein was captured. The grant recipients of the Tides Foundation, to which Kerry’s wife has steered more than $4 billion in “charitable” funds, understand no such nuance.

Tides established the Iraq Peace Fund and the Peace Strategies Fund to fund the antiwar movement. These projects fueled such hysterical protest organizations as MoveOn.org, the website that recently featured two separate commercials portraying George W. Bush as Adolf Hitler. (Howard Dean, not Kerry, won MoveOn.org’s “virtual primary.”)

The antiwar movement often boasted that MoveOn.org and the radical website Indymedia provided them “alternate media coverage.” Indymedia, an enormous news and events bulletin board with local pages in most of the world’s major cities, provided a vital link for radical activists often with violent agendas to coordinate their protests. Indymedia received $376,000 from the Tides Foundation.

The Institute for Global Communications is another leftist communications facilitator that received Tides grant money. IGC, which during the 1990s was the leading provider of web technology to the radical Left, links to “recommended sites” such as the War Resisters League (a group whose purpose is enabling peaceniks to refuse to pay taxes) and the leftist American Friends Service Committee. Most disturbing is the link to Ramsey Clark’s International Action Center, which has supported Slobodan Milosevic and North Korean strongman Kim Jong-Il. The IAC is the force behind International ANSWER, which sponsored the major antiwar (and anti-Bush) rallies before the invasion of Iraq. When ANSWER was outed as a Communist organization, United for Peace and Justice, headed by longtime Communist Party member Leslie Cagan was created as a "moderate" alternative. UFPJ is also a Tides grant recipient.The Tides-funded “A Better Way Project,” which opposed war in Iraq, also coordinated efforts of United for Peace and Justice and the Win Without War Coalition. The celebrity-laden Win Without War Coalition, along with the Bill Moyers-funded Florence and John Schumann Foundation, ran full-page ads in the New York Times opposing the War on Terrorism. This will not be the last overlapping of far-Left causes.

The Islamist Front

Immediately after 9/11, Tides formed a “9/11 Fund” to advocate a “peaceful national response” to the opening salvos of war. Part of the half-million dollars in grants the 9/11 Fund dispersed went to the New York Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project to protect the rights of homosexual Arabs. The Foundation replaced the 9/11 Fund with the “Democratic Justice Fund,” which was established with the aid of George Soros’ Open Society Institute. (Currency speculator and pro-drug advocate Soros is, like Teresa Heinz Kerry, a major contributor to Tides, having donated more than $7 million.) The Democratic Justice Fund seeks to ease restrictions on Muslim immigration to the United States, particularly from countries designated by the State Department as “terrorist nations.”

Tides has also given grant money to the Council for American Islamic Relations. Ostensibly a “Muslim civil rights group,” CAIR is in fact one of the leading anti-anti-terrorism organizations within the Wahhabi Lobby, with links to Hamas. CAIR regularly opposes and demonizes American efforts to fight terrorism, claiming, for instance, that Homeland Security measures are responsible for an undocumented surge in “hate crimes.”

CAIR officials have reason to fight Bush’s anti-terrorism measures: all too many CAIR officials are on the record supporting terrorism. CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad openly stated in 1994, “I am a supporter of the Hamas movement.” Community Affairs Director Bassem K. Khafagi has been arrested for visa and bank fraud. Randall Royer, a Communications Specialist and Civil Rights Coordinator at CAIR, was arrested along with a group of Islamic radicals in Virginia for allegedly planning jihad. CAIR has defended terrorist “charities” shut down by the Bush administration. Every few months some CAIR campus official is arrested for aiding and abetting terrorism.

The Legal Matrix

The Tides Foundation has funded a number of the pillars of the radical legal establishment. Chief among these is the National Lawyers Guild, which began as a Commnist front organization and is proud of its lineage. At its recent convention last October, the concluding speaker was Lynne Stewart, an indicted terrorist NLG lawyer arrested for helping her client -- convicted 1993 World Trade Center bombing mastermind Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman -- communicate with his terrorist cells in Egypt. In her speech, Stewart said she and her NLG comrades were carrying on a proud tradition of their forebears, past and present:

And modern heroes, dare I mention? Ho and Mao and Lenin, Fidel and Nelson Mandela and John Brown, Che Guevara who reminds us, “At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love.” Our quests like theirs are to shake the very foundations of the continents.

More recently, the NLG has endorsed the March 20 call to End Colonial Occupation from Iraq to Palestine & Everywhere organized by International ANSWER, and has posted a petition for “Post-Conviction Relief” for convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Tides’ Peace Strategies Fund has funneled money to the Center for Constitutional Rights. The CCR was stablished by Sixties radical William Kunstler, defender of the Chicago 8, and Arthur Kinoy. The two also had plans to establish a new Communist Party. Executive Director Ron Daniels has been honored by the Communist Party USA for his work. Daniels also has a long and cordial relationship with racist, anti-Semitic “poet laureate” Amiri Baraka. Since 9/11, CCR has channeled its efforts into fighting every effective Homeland Security measure. They have opposed increasing the government’s ability to wiretap Islamists suspected of plotting terrorism and moaned the sequestering of terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay was an unexcusable form of “racial profiling.” CCR President Michael Ratner has portrayed American soldiers as the offenders, guilty of 9/11 by their Middle East policy and guilty of keeping Islamist killers “shackled, hooded and sedated during the 25 hour flight from Afghanistan.” CCR has also defended Lynne Stewart’s “innocence” in aiding Sheikh Rahman’s Islamic Jihad.

Tides also funds the Alliance for Justice, a group dedicated to stopping Bush judicial appointees (a cause John Kerry wholeheartedly endorsed). Other Tides grants have gone to the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and the Asian Law Caucus.

Environmental Extremism

The Tides Foundation has funded the Ruckus Society, a group of anarchist Greens who rioted and looted Seattle during the 1999 World Trade Organization riots. The Tides Center of Western Pennsylvania, established in Pittsburgh with Heinz Family funds, advocates for environmentalist measures that have helped put holes in the Rust Belt’s economy.

Tides money has also squashed free speech. Thanks to complaints generated by the Tides-funded Environmental Working Group, ABC cancelled a John Stossel piece exposing the misleading nature of environmental advocacy in public elementary schools.

Greenpeace is a well-known Tides grant recipient. Greenpeace is best known for its illegal actions, endangering humans in order to make a point about the environment. Tides gave Greenpeace a quarter of a million dollars over ten years.

Lest one think only Tides’ money is going to radicals, not funds directly controlled by Teresa Heinz Kerry, remember that Heinz money has repeatedly found its way to the Earth Island Institute. On September 14, 2001, the Institute’s website bore the headline “U.S. Responds to Terrorist Attacks with Self-Righteous Arrogance.”

Heinz family philanthropic funds have also had some dubious effects on the presidential race. The League of Conservation Voters has recently endorsed John Kerry’s presidential campaign. The Heinz Family Foundation gave LCV at least $20,000 and donated almost $250,000 to a member of the LCV board.

Perhaps this circular rotation of cash and endorsements should not surprise anyone. The grant-making institutions of the Left and their feverish recipients ultimately form an amorphous, leftist entity. One never needs to search very far to find connections between a leftist foundation and extreme advocacy groups. Teresa Heinz Kerry, George Soros, Bill Moyers and the Ford Foundation fund the Tides Foundation/Center; Tides funds the National Lawyers Guild, CAIR, MoveOn.org and United for Peace and Justice; those organizations then unite in fluid coalitions to protest against their common political enemies (Republicans). Ultimately, their representatives end up on Bill Moyers' PBS programs or active within the Democratic campaigns of their fundraisers. Between now and the election, these organizations will run constant interference for the Democratic presidential nominee (presumably Kerry himself): they will march en masse against the Bush administration again and again; they will file more lawsuits against the administration's Homeland Security measures, decry any effective response to terrorism, claim the United States is guilty of slaughtering Iraqi civilians and petition leftist judges to open America's borders to Islamist terrorists. After they help his election, President Kerry will be indebted to them. And then they will insist he begin implementing their political agenda.

Moreover, they will have a close ally in the East Wing of the White House, an ally more intimately tied to them than she is to her (second) husband. (She only adopted his last name and political party registration less than 18 months ago. “Politically, it's going to be Heinz Kerry,” she recently said. “But I don't give a sh-t, you know?”) Teresa Heinz Kerry will play a potent role in saving her second husband’s presidential campaign now -- as Hillary Clinton did in 1992, and again during her husband’s impeachment. Like Hillary, in return for her service, Heinz may demand a place at the table for her pet causes. Caveat emptor.
