We have published articles in the American Thinker (SEE BELOW) and Boston’s Jewish Advocate showing, along with photographic and video documentation, that New England ADL’s Interfaith Youth Leadership Program has been staffed by supporters of convicted Al Qaeda terrorist Tarek Mehanna. This failure to vet interfaith partners in our view stems from ADL’s policy of ignoring or minimizing the Islamist threat to Jews in America. We have shown – through an analysis of ADL’s own data – that the organization chooses not to engage with the two largest threats facing Jews in our time: leftist and Islamist hatred of Israel and Jews. In refusing to pivot toward confronting these new threats posed by the Leftist/Islamist alliance, the ADL has abandoned Jewish interests. ADL's Interfaith Summer Camp Infiltrated by Supporters of Al Qaeda Terrorist

How would you feel if you sent your son or daughter to an Anti-Defamation League summer camp only to find out that the camp’s youth coordinators are supporters of a convicted Al Qaeda terrorist?
Brothers Bilal and Ammaar Mirza have been involved with Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL’s) Camp Interfaith in beautiful Andover, New Hampshire since they were teenagers, first as campers and then as staffers. Yet at the very same time, they have also been active in a Boston area extremist Islamist movement that is viciously anti-American and tinged with anti-Semitism, a movement that has coalesced around the cause of a local jihadist celebrity, Tarek Mehanna.

Tarek Mehanna, a Sudbury native, is currently serving a 23 year sentence in Federal prison for conspiracy to provide material support to Al Qaeda, conspiracy to murder in a foreign country, and lying to the FBI about his attempts to join up with Al Qaeda in Yemen. Tarek Mehanna liked to refer to himself as “the media wing of Al Qaeda in Iraq” and told his friends that he felt Osama Bin Laden was like a father to him. He and his co-conspirators had visited the 9/11 Ground Zero site in NYC, where he snapped photos of himself grinning and holding up the index finger salute used by Islamic extremists.

In recorded conversations, he said he wished “Allah’s mercy on just the [World Trade Center] buildings, not the sinners that were in it.”
According to the FBI, Mehanna had planned an assault rifle massacre of shoppers in North Attleboro’s Emerald Square Mall. An FBI agent assigned to his case recounted in court filings how “Mehanna and his coconspirators, who shared videos and took real pleasure in the deaths of American servicemen, seemed to delight in the most horrific atrocities.” The Feds intercepted online conversations in which Mehanna gleefully urges his friends to check out a terrorist video he found online where Al Qaeda fighters in Iraq rip open the ribcages of US soldiers, pour gasoline in their chest cavities and set them on fire. “[N]ice juicy BBQ,” Mehanna gloated to his friends. “Texas BBQ is the way to go. I want more BBQ sauce videos.”
Throughout the course of his trial, Americans for Peace and Tolerance (our organization) identified and filmed  ADL youth programs coordinators Bilal and Ammaar – as well as their father Farooq – taking active part in multiple rallies organized by the so-called “Free Tarek” movement. We have also extensively documented the vicious anti-American rhetoric from speaker after speaker at these gatherings, as well as hateful anti-Semitic online postings like “Close Guantanamo Bay, Reopen Auschwitz,” by members of the group.  Mehanna’s admirers also include people who do more than cheer him on: A prayer card in support of Mehanna was found in the apartment of the Boston Marathon bombers.

They’re chanting “Free Tarek” with the rest of the extremist crowd, riled up by Mehanna’s family members and the leader of the Boston Marathon bombers’ mosque, who told the assembled Muslims that they’ll be the next victims of the wicked American government if they don’t do something about it.
But ADL youth program coordinator Bilal Mirza told the Boston Herald that, “he’s known Mehanna for years and looks up to him,” saying, “He’s always been a great mentor.” Here is what Bilal wrote about Mehanna while calling for his release:
“Tariq [sic] is a great, humble, and gentle person. His actions, mannerisms, as well as his overall demeanor exude the qualities of intrinsic humanity. He is not only a [sic] honest Muslim, but also and endearing human being. … He does not deserve the things that are happening to him.”
 Inexplicably then, the ADL hired a man who considers someone who gloats over the vicious mutilation of American troops and the murder of 3,000 Americans on 9/11 “an endearing human being” who “exude[s] the qualities of intrinsic humanity.” And ADL hired him to work with and influence children entrusted to its care, If having his moral views doesn’t disqualify Bilal from becoming an ADL youth camp staffer, what would?
Bilal and Ammaar are not just random young men who happened to work summers at ADL’s camp: our research indicates that the entire Mirza family is as close to the ADL as it is to the Mehanna clan.
In fact, young Bilal and his father Farooq Mirza were prominently honored at the ADL’s 2013 Nation of Immigrants Seder. Farooq was given the honor of being a co-chair of the event together with such notables as former Boston Mayor Tom Menino and Newton Mayor Setti Warren. 

Bilal Mirza was a member of the ADL Seder’s planning committee. ADL New England’s Executive Director Robert Trestan personally introduced Bilal at the podium and asked “those of you who came here with children, those of you who have kids at home” to consider sending them to the interfaith summer camp for some quality time with Bilal. After taking the podium, Bilal proceeded to quote a Quranic verse traditionally interpreted as rebuking Jews for deviating from divine truth

Bilal seems to be advancing at ADL. In August 2013, he worked with the organization to expand the summer camp program into a year-long program called “ADL Interfaith Youth Leadership Coalition.” The launch was held at Babson College, where Bilal is the campus Muslim chaplain. Northeastern University had to dismiss its own Muslim chaplain, Abdullah Faaruuq, after our organization exposed his own support of Tarek Mehanna. But given the “Jewish stamp of approval” provided him by the ADL, it’s no surprise to see Bilal remain in his perch at Babson and rise to such positions of influence where he can spread his views to New England’s Muslim youth. As highly regarded as they are by ADL, Bilal and Farooq Mirza also seem much esteemed by the notorious Saudi-funded and Al Qaeda terrorist-founded Islamic Society of Boston (ISB). Farooq Mirza was given a place of honor right next to former Boston Mayor Menino at the ISB’s Roxbury mosque grand opening in 2009.  Bilal Mirza seems close with the Imam of ISB Cambridge, where the Boston Marathon bombers prayed and, according to the FBI, posed for pictures with the mosque’s Al Qaeda “black flag of jihad.” ADL New England’s Board Chair Jeff Robbins is rumored to be the replacement of ADL’s national head, Abe Foxman, when Foxman retires in late July. Before he became an ADL official, however, Robbins was so deeply concerned about the Islamic Society of Boston’s terrorist connections that he drafted a memorandum to the Federal Justice Department outlining “crimes that may have been committed by the ISB or by officers of the ISB.” In the memorandum, Robbins accused the ISB’s leaders of “Providing Material Support to Foreign Terrorist Organizations.” But now as an ADL official bound by Foxman’s interfaith policies, Robbins honors some of the ISB’s most prominent activists and allows them to live with and supervise Jewish children, whose parents trust the ADL to inculcate them with proper values, and to keep them safe. So what actually goes on at ADL’s Camp Interfaith? This quote from a 2006 Boston Globe puff piece about the camp comes from a teenage Jewish girl: “Even if we're discussing whether Hezbollah is a terrorist group," she said, ``afterward we can still be friends and go play soccer."  Does ADL really want to teach American Jewish teens that they can be friends with Muslims here only if they betray the Jews of Israel? Even more concerning: what are ADL’s radical Muslim staffers teaching New England’s young Muslims at this camp? Bilal Mirza is himself an anti-Israel ideologue. The year after he first started working at ADL’s Camp Interfaith, Bilal uploaded an album of pictures from his trip to Gaza to his Facebook profile. The album was titled: “If you support Israel, look at the destruction you support.” These are not the kinds of things that ADL advertises when it sends out the fundraising letters that annually help it net close to $50 million of precious Jewish communal capital. When Bubbe sends that donation check believing ADL’s promises to fight the anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism her grandchildren face on campus, little does she know that ADL is using her hard-earned retirement savings to bring anti-Semites and Israel haters literally into its own tents, giving them career-boosting cover in the process. Has ADL’s leadership become so arrogant and doctrinaire leftist that it refuses to do minimal checking of its Muslim interfaith partners? Or is it so incompetent that it can’t use Google to do the sort of simple vetting of job applicants that McDonald’s does routinely?  Until ADL breaks its ties with terrorist supporters like the Mirzas and does a thorough audit of its vetting process for interfaith partners, Jewish children who attend its interfaith camp will continue being exposed to interpersonal “peace-making” scenarios where they can hear from ADL staffers that Hizbullah may not really be a terrorist organization – no matter its expressed mission to murder all Jews. They will continue being exposed to “youth coordinators” like Bilal Mirza, who have claimed that if Jewish kids support Israel, they support destroying Palestinian kids’ homes. But even more concerning is that if ADL does not correct its faulty vetting policy, Muslim children in New England will be exposed to extremists like Bilal, who claim that an Al Qaeda terrorist is actually an honest Muslim who is simply a victim of the evil American government. We were in fact first warned about the Mirzas by moderate Boston Muslims concerned about the radicals within their community. And they – the true moderates we should all be befriending – are deeply upset by how groups like the ADL simple-mindedly expose their children to Islamic extremists under the guise of interfaith dialogue. Does the ADL have no relations with the truly moderate, patriotic members of the Muslim community in New England? Interfaith work is extremely important in these volatile times. It needs to be done well by competent professionals. Jewish and Muslim parents in New England should demand no less. ADL must conduct a thorough of how this happened, explain to the community what went wrong, dissociate itself entirely from the Mirza family and put its Interfaith Youth Leadership Coalition on hold until it can guarantee that Jewish and Muslim children are safe in its care. Meanwhile, it is clear to us: ADL’s leaders have deserted their organization’s mission, its members, and its donors. It’s time for its donors to tell them "enough." 	Brandeis’s dishonor diaries By Charles Jacobs and Ilya Feoktistov Imam Suhaib Webb was a happy man last Wednesday. The radical Islamist leader of Boston’s Saudi- funded mega mosque boasted that his Muslim community persuaded Brandeis University President Fred Lawrence to withdraw a Brandeis honorary degree from Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the courageous, Somalia-born humanrights activist who fled – and who campaigns against – the horrors radical Islam inflicts on women. Webb blasted out thanks to his tens of thousands of social media followers, to the Brandeis Muslim Student Alliance and to Brandeis Professor of Islam Joseph Lumbard for their activist work. He cheered: “Great job, ,!” Umma is the Muslim community. If you watch the videos of his sermons, you might conclude that Webb is homophobic, anti-Semitic and a misogynist, a man who claims that uncovered women are “bad people.” His mosque’s website once had instructions for men on how to beat their wives. Ali’s brave words expose this kind of abuse of women in the Islamic world. She threatens to contest – and to expose – Islamist ideology for what it truly is. So Webb sought to have her silenced. And he succeeded. If Brandeis President Fred Lawrence lived in a world not drenched in post-modernist political correctness, he would be Ali’s most natural champion. But he is owned and ruled by that canon. Too many people do not understand how much America’s ideological world has been shifting over these last 30 years. It was almost exactly a year ago – just after Rabbi Ronne Friedman of Boston’s Temple Israel publicly endorsed his “depth, sincerity and religious scholarship” in an expression of Jewish interreligious “tolerance” -- that Webb attacked Ali. He did it from the podium at the annual banquet of the Council on American- Islamic Relations (CAIR), the extremist Hamas front group that led the hateful campaign on Brandeis to snub her. Webb called Ali – a black African woman who converted away from Islam – an “idiot” and wondered: “How can she teach at the University of Phoenix, let alone Harvard?” (Ali is a fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.) Ayaan Hirsi Ali It’s a topsy-turvy world. Most Jews older than 40 don’t have a clue about the fast-flowing river of politically correct thought that runs beneath and undermines our society’s foundations of history, reason, morality and logic. Most do not comprehend the difference between the mental world in which our children are steeped (in their schools and in the popular culture) and the 1960s ideology of our elites. That’s why so many were shocked that a “Jewish” and “liberal” university could publicly dishonor a black woman who fights for human rights. Many are shocked because they do not know the new rules of social and political life, and how deeply those rules have penetrated. But only by knowing today’s reigning rules that comprise a secular theology with a complex hierarchy of values could one understand how Webb, a white man, can call a black woman an idiot, question her qualifications to teach at Harvard and not be relegated to social hell. Only operating under those rules could Lawrence publicly shame and dishonor a woman who escaped her medieval society – after having been genitally mutilated, forced by her devoutly religious family into marriage, and threatened with death – and who now bravely faces down her murderous enemies. Only in this new and PC world can Webb, the white son of an Oklahoma bank executive, claim greater victimhood and moral sanction from Lawrence than a brutalized but brave African woman simply because he adopted a fake accent and converted to Islam while Ali converted out of it. Parents considering the huge tuitions that colleges now fetch are persuaded to pay through the nose in part because, yes, they deem it practical, but also because they are moved by glowing phrases about the glory and power of ideas. They have yet to understand that the ideas in power on today’s campus can turn on a black heroine and give victory to an Islamist because the president of a “Jewish,” “liberal” center of learning needs to be in line with the Islamist, even though he claims that Jews were Muhammad’s “greatest antagonizers” and that animosity toward the Jews is understandable. On May 9, 2006, I met Ali in Harvard Square for breakfast. She was to speak at the Kennedy School that night. She would relate over toast and coffee that her adopted country, the Netherlands, was soon to withdraw her body guards; that the Dutch decided they could no longer protect her. While in the Netherlands, Ali had co-produced with Vincent Van Gogh’s great-grandnephew Theo Van Gogh a film called “Submission” about the Islamic oppression of women. In response, CAIR’s fellow Islamic extremists stirred up so much violent hatred against her and Van Gogh that one of their followers decided to act. The Muslim terrorist ambushed Van Gogh in a street in broad daylight, shot him eight times, sliced his neck until his head was barely hanging on by a flap of skin, and pinned a note to his mutilated body with a knife. The note was for Ali. It read: “You’re next.” Interestingly, the recent attacks against Ali by Webb and CAIR are motivated by a new film she made about suffering Muslim women called “Honor Diaries.” Waiting in the lobby of the Harvard Inn – she was 10 minutes late – I saw strategically placed at every possible entrance three very large, athletic blonde men whose jackets bulged with muscle (or metal). A smiling giant walked up to me, said my name, and when I confirmed, led me into a private breakfast room. I had put my hand on his back as we walked. It felt sheathed in steel. He had me sit facing away from the door. Ali entered the room and her guards left. We spoke of her situation briefly and then turned to the business of that night’s panel, sponsored by the Dutch Student Club at Harvard, which had, I had to tell Ali, gotten cold feet and begged me to have her mitigate her message about Islam. Today, I’d have to tell her that at Brandeis much of what counts as Western civilization got cold feet and won’t stand with her. It may therefore not stand up for itself. That this happened at the hands of a Jewish president of a Jewish center of learning is extraordinarily painful. But now comes the pushback: After the shock and dismay, people are mobilizing. I see that professors, writers and intellectuals, many of them liberals, are coming to their senses. The resultant protests and discussions will be a gauge of just have far we have fallen and just how well we can recover. A sister of the suspected Boston Marathon bombers appeared in a New Jersey court on Monday to face drug possession and distribution charges.

Bella Tsarnaeva appeared in Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey, on marijuana charges after she was arrested in December 2012, just months before her brothers allegedly targeted the Boston Marathon in an attack that killed three people.

Police had responded to a call to Tsarnaeva's Fairview home in response to domestic violence call and arrested her and boyfriend Ahmad Khalil after smelling marijuana coming from the apartment they shared.

Bella Tsarnaeva, the sister of the two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing, appeared in court in New Jersey on drug possession and distribution charges

Authorities say Tsarnaeva has not been implicated in the bombing that took place in downtown Boston on April 15, 2013.

Tsarnaeva and Khalil pleaded not guilty last May when they made their first appearance in court to answer the drug charges.

 

 

NJ.com reported that Bergen County prosecutors believed Tsarnaeva will be admitted to a pretrial intervention program. 

The case was adjourned until next month while prosecutors and attorneys worked out a plea deal for her co-defendant.

Bella, 24, is one of two middle sisters of the suspected bombers. 

Her younger sister Alina, 22, told reporters in the aftermath of last April's attack that 'I’m sorry for all the people who are hurt and for all the people who lost their lives... no one is okay right now… I’m hurt for everyone who has been hurt. I’m sorry for all the people who are hurt and for all the people who lost their lives.'

Eldest son Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed during a chaotic shootout with police after a long manhunt for the suspects that also saw university police officer Sean Collier, 26, shot to death. 

Youngest brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, aged 19 at the time of the attack, was captured the following day after he was found hiding in a boat parked in a backyard of the Watertown district of Boston. 

He is now facing terrorism charges that carry the death penalty.

Here is our analysis of pop-culture anti-American pro-terrorism at the Rolling Stone Rolling Stoned: from Guevara to Tsarnaev by Charles Jacobs and Ilya Feoktistov August 2, 2013 The Jewish Advocate The Rolling Stone cover glamorizing Dzhokhar Tsarnaev should not have surprised. The cultural left was born hating American power and blaming it for the poverty and oppression of indigenous, darker-skinned Third Worlders who naturally and justifiably hate us. Expressing admiration for violent anti- Americans has for a long time been a way for the disaffected to exclaim how much they are not like the white imperialists they live among, how – unlike us – they are noble souls, standing with the oppressed. In his masterful book, “Bobos in Paradise,” New York Times columnist David Brooks explained how therapeutic this sort of thing can be for middle-class youth who find themselves living off the wealth of their parents, and Western capitalism in general – a wealth they sense is undeserved, a wealth they feel traps them in an immorally privileged corner. We should have some sympathy: It is a good thing that our children, swathed in affluence unknown to the common man just decades ago, feel moral twinges when they see the lives of Third Worlders. The problem is that the children of the West have been misled about how wealth is created. Historians know that specific cultural attributes combined with specific economic policies to create the West’s cornucopia. Today’s children are not taught that “the Protestant work ethic” and free markets lifted the West out of age-old poverty, or that hard work, deferred gratification, investment, and free trade are part of an interconnected system that can’t help but produce massive wealth. Yes, the same capitalism that lifted all boats did not bestow its gifts equally. And yes, raw capitalism produces hardships that can and should be alleviated through safety nets. But the simpler lesson taught by the left – whose “long march” through our cultural intuitions won the day – is that our wealth is to blame for others’ poverty. In the ’60s, the young victims of leftist fallacies cried out against their “white-skin privilege,” tried to join the Black Panthers, and cheered the Viet Cong. This has old, known and even pre-political roots. Ever since Jean Jacques Rousseau cursed the emerging, artificially sophisticated, modern city life and contrasted it with the purer, nobler bygone days of agrarian society, much of the Western middle class developed a romance with the “unspoiled primitive,” a vision Rousseau captured in his description of “the noble savage.” Artists such as Gauguin went to live with and glorify the natives. Anthropologists studied the Trobriand Islanders, seeking the secrets of our lost natures. The “Guerrillero Herico” photograph of Che Guevara has become so popular it’s been printed on T-shirts. Political anti-Westernism emerged with the socialist critique of capitalism, and was dramatically expressed by those who romanticized bomb-throwing anarchists and later, with even more passion, communist guerrillas. Western infatuation with “anti-materialist” rebels reached a pinnacle with the mad love-crush over Che Guevara, a child of the middle class himself who revolted, became the Cuban communist terrorist “guerrilla fighter,” and sought to create the “new man” who would live for moral and not material goals. Che achieved rock-star hero status among the West’s spoiled children who didn’t actually have to give up any of their privileges, but just wear his T-shirt and sing from his songbook. His image was made iconic: Alberto Korda’s photograph of him entitled “Guerrillero Herico” (“Heroic Guerrilla Fighter”) is thought to be the most famous photograph in the world. It’s worn as a flag on the chests of the rich kids whose T-shirts shriek hatred for their own “greedy” kind and for the riches their parents’ society bestowed upon them, trapping them in white guilt. Communist “guerrillas” are a bit passé. The left failed to recruit the “proletariat” for its revolution – the working class preferred scarfing up capitalist goods at Wal-Mart over programs to transform themselves into the “new man.” But ever resourceful, leftists adopted the Arab/Muslim “masses” as a new force to defeat the capitalists. And so today, radical leftists fetishize Islamic terrorists. This is not new: Americans were surprised to see leftist Tsarnaev supporters flying in from as far as Washington State to protest outside court during his arraignment. But Boston leftists have been developing crushes on Islamists for quite a while Indeed Dzhokhar is the third Islamist terrorist that Boston’s radicals have sought to turn into celebrities. The first was Tarek Mehanna, accused of plotting to use a machine gun to kill shoppers at the Attleboro shopping mall and convicted of material support for al-Qaida. Mehanna was given this year’s Sacco and Vanzetti award from the leftist Community Church of Boston, based in the Trinity Church in Copley Square – just feet away from where the Marathon bombs killed three people and maimed scores more. “Occupy Boston” has also endorsed Mehanna’s cause. There is a video of an “Occupy Boston” spokesman telling the crowd at a rally in Boston Common: “I believe that Tarek is innocent of any wrongdoing. …Tarek is an Egyptian American who empowered his community – an oppressed community, the Muslim community, speaking against U.S. wars in the Middle East. Shortly after Boston’s radical leftists adopted Mehanna, they learned to love Aafia Siddiqui, an MIT- and Brandeis-educated – and then radicalized – young Muslim woman who is now serving an 86-year sentence for attempting to murder two FBI agents. She was caught in Afghanistan with planning a chemical attack in downtown Manhattan. The Cambridge Public Library hosted an event called “Free Sister Aafia.”The “Occupy Boston” crowd carried signs saying “Free Aafia and Tarek.” While the far left openly salivates over anti-Western killers and would-be killers, the liberal leaders in Boston, working to blind us to the roots of these threats, work publicly with Islamic extremists who openly call for Mehanna and Siddiqui’s release. Ten years ago, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who now eloquently accuses Rolling Stone of “reward[ing] a terrorist with celebrity treatment” rewarded the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB) – the mosque attended by Mehanna, Siddiqui and the two Boston Marathon bombers – with a $2 million plot of city land (which he gave away for peanuts) for the building of a new $16 million, Saudi-funded mega-mosque. Just two years ago, “Menino’s mosque” (as The Boston Phoenix called it) hosted a pep rally for four convicted Muslim terrorists from around the country. Shortly before that, Governor Deval Patrick – who has also condemned the Rolling Stone cover as being in poor taste – attended a high-profile event at the same mosque, where he literally embraced one of Boston’s most extremist imams, Abdullah Faaruuq. Faaruuq, who has made the cases of Mehanna and Siddiqui, causes célèbres among the Islamic Society of Boston worshippers. (Faaruuq was dismissed from his position as the Muslim chaplain at Northeastern University when this was revealed.) Even Henrietta Davis, the mayor of Cambridge – where the Marathon terrorists lived – is inadvertently supporting radicals. She headlined an event in support of the ISB, where she can be seen staring in dutiful rapture as the “moderate” spokesman from the mosque that the bombers prayed in – Anwar Kazmi – spouts platitudes about peace and justice after the bombing. She has not responded to reports that a year earlier, Kazmi was caught on film leading a Boston Common rally at which he called on Muslims and leftists to support Mehanna and Siddiqui. Will Tsarnaev’s stylized visage become like Che’s, a global countercultural symbol of “rebellion,” an international insignia for the popculture leftists? State police Sgt. Sean Murphy might have thrown a monkey wrench into the leftist icon machine by releasing to the press an unglamorous set of photos of Tsarnaev taken as he was arrested, bruised and bloodied and in the unheroic pose of abject surrender. Murphy, who was docked a day’s pay for his valiant service to Western civilization, gets our vote as the real “new man.” Maybe we should take up a collection; he certainly earned his keep that day. FBI ignored warnings about Boston bombers’ radical mosque

APT breaks national story: FBI ignored warnings about Boston bombers’ radical mosque By Charles Jacobs and Ilya Feoktistov  The Daily Caller | July 25, 2013 Federal Bureau of Investigation officials ignored warnings about the radical origins and nature of the mosque frequented by the Tsarnaev brothers for years before this April’s deadly Boston Marathon bombings. Outgoing FBI Director Robert Mueller has also said that although the FBI visited the mosque in the past — as part of its “outreach” to the Muslim community — he was unaware of the Islamist leanings of the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB), which runs the Boston bombers’ house of worship. But the FBI was warned nearly four years prior to the bombings that the ISB was a nest of Islamic radicalism. On May 1, 2009 our organization, Americans for Peace and Tolerance (APT), briefed representatives of the Boston FBI office on the ISB mosques’ affiliation with Islamic extremism. Nevertheless, the FBI continues to claim it was surprised by the background of the ISB.  In a June appearance before the House Judiciary Committee, Mueller described how it took four days after the Boston Marathon bombings for his agency to canvass the Tsarnaev brothers’ controversial mosque.  After tough questioning by the highly perturbed Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert, Mueller confessed that he had absolutely no idea the Tsarnaevs’ mosque was founded by Abdulrahman Alamoudi, who was convicted in 2004 of plotting with Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi to assassinate Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz.  But a review of the PowerPoint slides we used in our 2009 presentation confirms that we did alert FBI agents in Boston about Alamoudi and much more. Legitimate warnings such as those we provided about ISB get ignored, however, because the Obama administration in 2011 instructed national security agencies to remove language “offensive to Muslims” from all of its reports and considerations. Agents may no longer refer to Islamic religious convictions as motives for terrorist acts. Even when suspects announce that they murdered Americans “for Allah,” the FBI can’t use that as an indication of what may be coming next.  The ISB mosque has been in damage control mode since the bombings. The ISB insisted that the mosque would have reported the Tsarnaevs to the FBI, had it been aware of any terrorist tendencies. Officials of the ISB also claim they immediately cooperated with the investigation.  In reality, however, the mosque emailed its members after the bombing, urging them to call the ACLU if contacted by the FBI and to get a lawyer before speaking to any government agent.  Alamoudi, ISB’s founder, is a poster boy for duping naive American leaders. He convinced two US Presidents — Bill Clinton and George W. Bush — that he was precisely the moderate Muslim leader they hungered for. In reality, Alamoudi was secretly filmed at a 2000 rally declaring himself to be a supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah.  By that point, Alamoudi had already tricked Clinton into allowing him to select Muslim chaplains for the Army and for American prisons. Islam is by far the fastest-growing religion in the U.S. prison system, with a Justice Department study concluding that between 30,000 and 40,o00 federal prisoners convert to Islam every year.  Anwar Kazmi, current ISB mosque executive board member and the mosque’s main spokesman, seems to be an accomplished protégé of the ISB’s founder. At a solidarity event for the mosque with Cambridge Mayor Henrietta Davis, Kazmi said of the Tsarnaevs: “What they have done is a grotesque perversion of the teachings of our faith… The Quran teaches us that whosoever kills an innocent person, it is as if he killed all of mankind.” Davis showed due reverence during the event.  Yet not long before he disavowed the Tsarnayevs’ terrorist act, at a rally held at the Boston Common gazebo, Kazmi sang a far different tune.  Kazmi was videotaped on the Boston Common urging the crowd to support a convicted Boston-area Islamic terrorist — Tarek Mehanna. Tarek Mehanna, a son of Egyptian immigrants and a native of Sudbury, Massachusetts, was convicted of material support for Al Qaeda. According to prosecutors, he had planned to machine gun shoppers at an Attleboro shopping mall.  In online chats with his co-conspirators, Mehanna wrote that the 9/11 hijackers are heroes and Osama Bin Laden is like a father to him. After viewing a film of Iraqi terrorists tearing open a dead U.S. Marine’s rib cage and setting it on fire with gasoline, Mehanna gloated, “Heh yeah… nice juicy BBQ… Texas BBQ is the way to go.” At the rally, Kazmi dropped the pretense that thrilled the Cambridge mayor and let loose, slandering the U.S. army with claims of atrocities in Iraq. Kazmi recommended the website FreeTarek.com, telling the crowd that he visited the site that morning and “read some of the things Tarek has written, and I was truly inspired and I’m sure that you will be inspired as well.” Mehanna’s mother spoke at the rally and claimed that Tarek is being “persecuted for being a Muslim” and that “one day all of our kids will be in his place.” The Tsarnaev brothers’ mother has likewise claimed her sons’ innocence and accused the United States of persecuting them for being Muslim. A young man who claimed to represent the Occupy Boston movement told the crowd: “I believe that Tarek is innocent of any wrong-doing… Tarek is an Egyptian American who empowered his community — an oppressed community, the Muslim community, speaking against U.S. wars in the Middle East. He represents in that sense a link in the chain of international solidarity against this global system that has oppressed so many of us.” He concluded by saying, “At the end of the day, we are all Tarek Mehanna.” The sentiments expressed by the ISB spokesman and his associates is similar to the ideas of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the younger and surviving Boston Marathon bomber, who left a note in the boat where he was eventually caught that expressed a visceral hatred for America, justified the bombings as revenge for U.S. wars Iraq and Afghanistan and claimed that when America attacks one Muslim, it is attacking all Muslims. As Kazmi and others’ statements at the Boston Common show, this is a standard message that is widely taught in local mosques and openly expressed even in Boston’s most public places. Media accounts have focused on how a New England Muslim youth like Tsarnaev was radicalized by jihadist websites, but in fact these ideas were available right in his own mosque.
