Dear Leah,

Yesterday, Richard Lakin – an American citizen, a grandfather of eight and a former school principal in Connecticut – died of wounds inflicted by Palestinian terrorists on October 13th.

The terrorists brutally attacked Richard on a bus in his Jerusalem neighborhood. He was shot in the head, stabbed twice in the face and stabbed in the abdomen with a large knife. Doctors fought for two weeks to save his life.

Richard was a man who dedicated his life to peace and coexistence between Jew and Arab. In Jerusalem, he opened a school called the Learning Alternative – and the “pride of his business” was teaching mixed classes of Arab and Jewish students.

According to his son, he believed that “by educating children to be kind and do good and accept each other, you could solve the problems of the world.” In his youth, he marched alongside Martin Luther King Jr. in the American civil rights movement before a 20-year career as an elementary school principal in Connecticut.

Richard’s good works on this Earth ended when he was struck down by Palestinian terror. The world must stand up and say ENOUGH. Enough terror. Enough innocent Israelis being murdered.

This beloved grandfather is the 11th innocent murdered by Palestinians in a terror wave against Israel that is now in its 28th day.

He is survived by his wife Karen, two children and eight grandchildren. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

May his memory be a blessing.

As we mourn the victims of this terror wave, TIP has started a petition to call on the world to stop the Palestinian terror wave. Will you take a moment to sign this important petition?

Thank you for your support,

The Israel Project
