A government watchdog group has sued the U.S. State Department for records showing that Human Abedin, the one-time adviser to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, had a sweetheart deal that allowed her to keep her salary while cashing in on the side with a lucrative private-sector consulting contract that could have presented glaring conflicts of interest.
Judicial Watch, famous for its litigation over long-languishing Freedom Of Information Act requests, filed suit Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, arguing that State has been sitting on a FOIA demand for months.
In late May, the group asked the State Department to hand over paperwork showing the terms of its employment contracts with Abedin, the long-suffering wife of disgraced former New York congressman Anthony Weiner. Judicial Watch said Wednesday that the government has dragged its collective feet.
